(Longview, WA) – A section of the Westside Highway is closed to heavy freight truck traffic due to concerns over a failing culvert.

The Washington State Department of Transportation discovered the failing culvert near Waters Road in early March while clearing culverts after days of heavy rain. A 15-foot sinkhole appeared and crews made initial temporary repairs. They have been checking the sink hole daily.

To prevent further damage, crews will restrict freight trucks and heavy vehicles over 10,000 GVW from traveling between milepost 6.2 near Hazel Dell Road and milepost 11.3 near Delameter Road.  Passenger vehicles and motorcycles will still have access but are asked to slow down over the gravel section of the sinkhole area.
