April 10, 2025(Longview, WA) – The public gathered yesterday at Lake Sacajawea for a double celebration: Arbor Day, and the 41st year Longview’s earned the title of a Tree City USA.
With about 25 people in attendance, three Coastal Redwoods were planted by Longview’s Urban Forestry and Parks crew on the point near Ocean Beach Highway at Kessler Blvd.
City Manager Jenn Wills said planting redwoods was the perfect way to represent our city, “one of the cool things about redwoods is their roots grow together, so you don’t plant them by themselves. With that, similarly to us, it creates a community that is strong and that will thrive in the future.”
To be named a Tree City USA, Longview again met four standards: the city has a tree board, a tree-care ordinance, a community forestry program, and the Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
