Wa Supreme Court Denies Review for Adam Diggin’s Attempted Murder Conviction—Classic Hits 100.7 KLOG News

Adam Diggins, the Happy Valley man who attempted to murder his ex-girlfriend in Longview back in May of 2021, has had the Washington State Supreme Court deny a request to review a Court of Appeals decision affirming his convictions.

Diggins, who was 44 at the time, had been convicted of 1st Degree Attempted Murder, Felony Harassment, Cyberstalking and Use of Drug Paraphernalia. During his trial, the jury heard evidence that Diggins had learned his former girlfriend was living in Longview with another man, leading to him sending several messages to her, threatening to drive here and shoot the man. He also sent a photo of a pistol on the center console of his vehicle.

He later arrived in their neighborhood in Longview, and Diggins was arrested and found to be in possession of that handgun. In a jail call to his daughter, Diggins admitted his intention in driving to Longview had been to kill the victim and commit suicide.

In his appeal, Diggins argued that he had not taken a substantial step towards committing the actual crime of murder. The Court of Appeals rejected this argument, saying that “any act done in furtherance of the crime constitutes an attempt if it clearly shows the design of the defendant to commit the crime.”
