April 8, 2025Once again many local residents are reporting phone calls where they’re told they’ve missed jury duty and need to pay a fine.
Superior Court Clerk Staci Myklebust said on a very few occasions they have called potential jurors to come in and serve when they have had an insufficient response.
But, Cowlitz County Sheriff Brad Thurman clarified, you will not be contacted by phone to be advised of pending civil or criminal charges for failure to respond to a jury duty summons, and you will not be called to make a payment to the court.
Scammers can sound very professional, and often use the names of local deputies or officers, use local 360 area codes, have professional sounding voice messages and phone trees, and may even list a law enforcement agency on caller ID.
Sheriff Thurman said “We are actively trying to identify who the perpetrators are.”
He said, be aware and never give out personal information, or transfer money or gift cards to unknown people.
If you have questions call the Sheriff’s Office at (360) 577-3092.
