April 9, 2025(Kelso, WA) — It wasn’t much of a mystery, but at least there is some level of resolution.
The Cowlitz County coroner has identified the body that was found on Weyerhaeuser land at the end of Ostrander Road on Monday.
In a press release, the coroner said Dean Kirby, 62, of Kelso died from hypothermia due to exposure.
Kirby was the subject of a Silver Alert last week when he was reported missing by his family. His 2016 Mazda was located in a remote area on Sunday. After an initial search was unsuccessful on Sunday, Cowlitz County Search and Rescue helped Cowlitz deputies and Kelso police officers find the body on Monday.
Kirby’s death has been ruled accidental.
