A portion of West Side Highway had to be fully closed in both directions yesterday after a culvert failure.
The closure occurred shortly after 9 a.m. at milepost 9.5, between Waters and Beverly Heights Road near Sandy Bend. Pictures showed a roughly 15-foot hole under the roadway.
The closure lasted until around 6:45 p.m. last night, when a work crew was able to put a temporary fix in place. They dumped 140 yards of large rock into the hole—equivalent to 14 dump truck loads—and then repaved the area.
