The Wahkiakum County Department of Emergency Management has put out an update on the apartment fire from early Monday that displaced 21 residents.
Local fire agencies are continuing to monitor the scene. They say they expect continued smoke in the area of the 140 block of Columbia Street and affected air quality for an extended period of time.
The community has been outstanding in their support of the affected families. The need for volunteers and donated items has already been filled; at this time, they have more donations than they can handle logistically. They want to remind people that the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds is not open to the public; rather, it is a place being used for emergency operations.
Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services and the Department of Emergency Management are working with other agencies to continue to provide resources and support to the victims. Any additional needs will be publicized at a later time.
