In the era of one-day delivery, porch pirates have been thriving, stealing packages from unsuspecting customers’ doors.
Yesterday, one never made it back to his boat. The Longview Police Department says an alert citizen helped them catch a porch pirate.
At around 11:50 a.m., a 911 caller reported witnessing a package being stolen from a porch at a residence in the 2900 block of Alabama Street.
The citizen was able to provide an in-depth description of the suspect, and officers were quickly able to locate him nearby. The suspect, 49-year-old Lewis Roberts of Longview, tried to flee on a bicycle, but he was quickly apprehended.
The stolen property was returned to its owner.
