A rail car caught fire late last night in the industrial area of Kelso.
Firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the fire just before midnight at the BNSF rail line near Talley Way and Coweeman Park Drive. A Union Pacific representative on site made contact with firefighters and informed them that the rail car was hauling garbage from the Seattle area to Arlington, Oregon, for disposal.
Firefighters were able to cut into the side of the rail car to access and extinguish the blaze by around 2 a.m. During the incident, rail travel on all train lines in the area was halted for safety purposes. There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is not known at this time.
