March 11, 2025The Longview man suspected of killing an Iowa woman over 40 years ago has had his bail set at $3 million after being extradited from Cowlitz County.
The Sioux City Journal reports that 62-year-old Thomas Popp was booked Saturday in Sioux City on a first-degree murder charge, and his bond was set at $3 million; previously, it was set at $750,000 in Cowlitz County.
Popp is accused of killing 18-year-old Terri McCauley, a mother of two, in 1983. McCauley had apparently told some friends she was going on a date when she was last seen alive. Over a week later, her body was found partially clothed and decomposing. It was determined that she had been shot in the face with a 20-gauge shotgun.
The circumstances leading to Popp’s arrest after all these years have not been revealed. For years, the case had relied on advances in DNA technology to generate leads, but without success.
