Go out and enjoy this year’s National Night Out.

This evening is the 43rd National Night Out. It’s a yearly event where police departments across the nation host a community campaign meant to foster interactions between citizens and law enforcement.

Here locally, there are plenty of events going on. The Longview Police Department will be at Archie Anderson Park in partnership with the Highlands Neighborhood Association from 5 to 8 p.m. The Kelso Police Department will be at Tam O’Shanter Park from 6 to 8 p.m., along with Mayor Veryl Anderson and the City Council, for their yearly special City Council meeting. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office will be at department headquarters in St. Helens from 5 to 8 p.m. Kalama Police will host theirs at Haydu Park from 6 to 8 p.m., and the one in Castle Rock will be at the North County Sports Complex from 6 to 8 p.m.

The events are free to the public and will include food and activities.
