April 23, 2025A motorcyclist and their passenger were both injured in a crash on Lewis River Road near Lake Merwin yesterday afternoon.
First responders arrived to find 41-year-old Donovan Smith of Battle Ground and 37-year-old Sarah McKernan of Vancouver. Smith declined transportation to the hospital, while McKernan was taken by ambulance to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.
According to the Washington State Patrol report, the two were riding southbound at milepost 34.8 around 4:37 p.m. Smith was driving, and McKernan was the passenger. The motorcycle crossed the center line, fell on its side, and struck the northbound guardrail.
Both riders were wearing helmets. Smith has been charged with driving left of the center line. No drugs or alcohol were involved, and the State Patrol reports that Smith’s speed was the cause of the crash.
