The Longview Police Department has arrested a suspect in a child online sex abuse case following a CyberTip investigation.
Longview Police Captain Brandon McNew says that on Wednesday, 36-year-old Timothy Bennett of Oklahoma was arrested at the Longview Inn motel near Civic Circle.
Back in January, the Longview Police Department Investigations Unit received the CyberTip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Data System regarding suspected child exploitation activity linked to an online account. The investigation was initiated by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
The investigation included online account details and an associated IP address that traced to Longview and identified Bennett as the suspect. Longview Police executed a search warrant at Bennett’s hotel room, and he was taken into custody without incident.
During an interview, Bennett admitted to downloading and distributing child pornography and participating in online group chats where those materials were shared.
Bennett was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail on multiple charges related to the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material. The investigation is ongoing.
