March 28, 2025Tonight’s Longview City Council meeting will include a proposed limit on the annual property tax levy rate, further discussion about fluoride in the city’s water, and a workshop on parking.
The workshop will focus on the downtown parking plan and will take place at a special meeting at 5 p.m., prior to the regular meeting.
The discussion on fluoride follows a decision made two meetings ago when the council voted to direct staff to present to the Beacon Hill Water and Sewer District Board and formally request their participation in a referendum vote regarding fluoride in the city’s water system. During that meeting, the Water and Sewer District, which holds an ownership share of Longview’s water supply, declined to participate in the referendum vote. They also expressed a preference for keeping fluoride in the city’s water.
Tonight, the council will direct staff on the next steps to take regarding the issue. The legal implications of moving forward with fluoride removal without the Water and Sewer District’s consent are currently unclear.
The vote on limiting the annual property tax levy rate is an ordinance that would cap annual increases at 1%, in accordance with state law.
Tonight’s meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Longview City Council Chambers.
