April 3, 2025The Lower Columbia College Center for Vocational and Transition Studies is included in both the Washington Senate and House capital budget proposals.
The $45.2 million project has been near the top of the State Capital list for the past three years and is closer to becoming a reality if the 2025-27 budget is approved.
Other District 19 projects on the list include $365,000 for improvements to the Wahkiakum County Courthouse, $300,000 for repairs to the Longview Library elevator, $115,000 for repairs to the Julia Butler Hansen House, just under $10 million for renovation of the Naselle Hatchery, $5.6 million for construction at Wahkiakum schools, $6 million for Winlock School District construction, $694,000 for the Longview Readiness Center at the Armory, and $500,000 for an inclusive playground at Cloney Park in Longview.
The Columbia Theatre also received good news days before its 100th anniversary celebration, with $1 million in a 2-for-1 match for repairs and renovations from the Heritage Capital grants through the State Historical Society.
The $7.6 billion bipartisan plan makes significant investments in infrastructure in communities across Washington State. Unlike the operating budget, the capital budget is primarily funded through bond sales rather than general fund revenue.
