There was a standoff involving the SWAT team yesterday morning in Longview, eventually leading to a domestic violence arrest.
Longview Police Captain Braden McNew says that around 8:25 a.m., the office responded to a residence in the 500 block of 21st Avenue, just off of Baltimore Street, after reports of a domestic violence assault involving threats with a firearm.
The victim said her boyfriend, 47-year-old Mandeep Singh of Longview, had assaulted her during an argument inside the home. She said that the threats with the firearm made her fear that he was going to shoot her. The victim and her child were able to leave the home and contact police.
Arriving officers surrounded the residence and tried to contact Singh by phone, texts, and loudspeakers. He did not respond or exit the home. This led to a search warrant being obtained, and the Lower Columbia SWAT team responded to assist.
By around 10:30 a.m., Singh had answered a phone call from negotiators and ultimately exited the residence; he was arrested without further incident. A search of the residence led to officers locating a handgun in the bathroom. Singh was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail on charges including Felony Harassment and 4th-Degree Assault, both with Domestic Violence Enhancements.
