An arrest has been made in Kelso after there was a reported shooting on Friday afternoon.

At around 4:05 p.m., Kelso Police officers responded to the reported incident in the 1300 block of South 13th Avenue, just down the road from the Dairy Queen. The caller reported that an unknown male wearing a face mask had shot him.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the victim bleeding from injuries to his head and chest. The victim said that the shooter had confronted him and pointed some type of firearm or device at him, shooting him twice before fleeing in a silver truck.

The victim was initially treated on-site and then taken by Life Flight to PeaceHealth Southwest in Vancouver for further care with non-life-threatening injuries.

After numerous tips and information from the public, Kelso Police were able to locate a shooting suspect around 9 p.m. Friday evening. 38-year-old Buddy Wakefield of Kelso was arrested and booked into the Cowlitz County Jail on a charge of 2nd Degree Assault Domestic Violence.

Officers say Wakefield allegedly had been using a less-lethal Byrna projectile launcher meant for self-defense during the incident.
