April 18, 2025The Longview Fire Department has released further details about the house fire that killed a few cats off 24th Avenue early yesterday morning.
Longview Fire Battalion Chief Eric Bergquist reported that two cats were killed, but another dozen were rescued.
The initial call about the fire came in to Cowlitz 911 at around 12:46 a.m., directing crews to the 600 block of 24th Avenue. Arriving units found the entire back portion of the home engulfed in flames. A total of 12 firefighters responded to the scene and successfully evacuated a resident from the home. That resident informed them the cats were in a back room.
Some of the cats were found safely in that room, while others were located outside the home.
The fire was knocked down within just over half an hour. The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
