April 1, 2025Longview’s Columbia Theatre could receive a significant sum of money as part of Washington State’s proposed 2025-27 supplemental capital budget. The Washington State House unveiled its budget plan yesterday, which includes a $1 million capital improvement request from the state’s Heritage Capital Grant for the Columbia Theatre Centennial Capital Project.
This request is ranked third on the list of projects. The grant has a 200% matching requirement, meaning the theater will need to raise $2 million by the project’s deadline on July 1, 2027. So far, the Columbia Theatre has successfully raised $1.7 million.
In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the Columbia Theatre will host a special event this Friday. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a rededication and ribbon-cutting ceremony. At 6:30 p.m., guests will enjoy a cake and champagne toast, accompanied by music from members of the Southwest Washington Symphony. The evening will conclude with a screening of the short comedic film The Uneasy Three, followed by the theater’s first-ever film, Charley’s Aunt, complete with live piano accompaniment by Rodney Sauer.
