New details have emerged about the death of Portland Police K-9 Kylo, who was killed during last week’s standoff with a homicide suspect.
Portland Police Chief Bob Day says investigators now believe Kylo was struck by police gunfire during the shooting outside the Chestnut Tree Inn in Southeast Portland. They have not determined which agency or officer fired the shot that wounded Kylo.
Kylo was working his final shift before retirement when he was wounded. He was taken to a pet hospital, where he was later euthanized because of his injuries.
The suspect, 39-year-old Eddie Brandon Todd Campbell of Portland, was killed in the officer-involved shooting. Police had identified Campbell as a suspect in the fatal shooting of 60-year-old Jeff Thompson in Gresham earlier that day.
Two Portland police officers involved in the shooting have been placed on standard paid administrative leave, along with two officers from other agencies.
