Peggy Leola Long: August 5, 1939 — September 18, 2026

LONGVIEW- Peggy Leola Long, née Owens, passed away on September 18, 2026, in Longview, Washington, while in hospice care following the progression of dementia. She was born on August 5, 1939, in Lorraine, Texas, and lived a life centered on family, friendship, and the simple joys that made a house feel warm and welcoming.

For 60 years, Peggy shared her life with her husband, Leo Long, in a marriage marked by devotion and steadfast love. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who raised six children, and family remained the great and abiding pride of her life. She loved to speak of her children and of all they had become, and the walls of her hallway, filled with framed family photographs, reflected the deep affection she carried for those closest to her. She was especially happy when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit, and those moments brought her some of her greatest joy.

Peggy and Leo enjoyed Amateur Ham Radio, a pastime that suited their generous and openhearted nature. They took pleasure in talking with people on the radio, making new friends, and sharing conversation with ease. No one remained a stranger to them for long. Peggy also loved opening her home to friends for card games, creating the kind of gatherings that were remembered not only for the play, but for the fellowship around the table.

She also found happiness in the living things she tended and cherished. Peggy loved dogs and animals, and she enjoyed gardening, especially growing vegetables and roses. These interests reflected her nurturing spirit and her appreciation for beauty, care, and the rhythms of everyday life. Her beloved dog, Pippi, now lives with her son Luke.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Long; her son, Eugene Long; her daughter, Beverly Scott; her grandsons, Kenny Scott and Ryan Long; and her son-in-law, Dale Scott. Their memories remained part of the family story she held so dearly.

She is survived by her children, Leo “Luke” Long, Wesley Long, Kathy Bernert, and Clayton Long, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren,  who carry forward the love and example she gave so freely. Through them, and through the generations of family who brought her such happiness, her legacy of devotion, warmth, and pride in those she loved continues on.

Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 8, 2026, at Union Point Cemetery, 41500 NW Banks Rd, Banks, Oregon 97106.

Peggy will be remembered for her welcoming heart, her lively conversation, her love of family, and the joy she found in sharing life with others. Her presence brought comfort and connection, and her memory will remain a blessing to those who knew and loved her.

Peggy and Leo Long are now reunited in heaven, where they follow their promise to one another to be “Together Forever.”
