A man has been arrested after a SWAT standoff early this morning in Kelso.

At around 2:39 a.m., Longview Police officers responded to a domestic violence assault that occurred in Longview. The suspect, later identified as Juan Castillo, had reportedly assaulted his girlfriend and threatened to “shoot up the place.”

He also allegedly threatened people at the scene with a knife and then fled to Kelso in a vehicle. Kelso Police say that, using their automated license plate camera system (ALPR), they were able to track Castillo’s location to the 1100 block of North 1st Avenue. Kelso PD, with the assistance of other local agencies, set up containment around the residence, and they ordered Castillo to come out.

He came out of the home several times but was not compliant, refusing to surrender. This led to the Lower Columbia SWAT team being activated, and around 5:20 a.m., Castillo surrendered to officers.

He has been booked on charges including 2nd Degree Assault DV, Felony Harassment DV, Obstructing/Resisting Arrest, and a fugitive arrest warrant.
