A motorcyclist was life-flighted on Saturday after crashing head-on into a Subaru Crosstrek on Lewis River Road next to Lake Merwin.

The Washington State Patrol says that the biker was 32-year-old Edward Aruja of Vancouver; he was flown from the scene to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

Aruja had been traveling northbound at milepost 41 around 5:20 p.m. while traveling at a high rate of speed. The Crosstrek, driven by 76-year-old Leslie Simons of Cougar, was going southbound when Aruja reportedly crossed the center line and struck the vehicle head-on.

When help arrived on the scene, Simons and her passenger, 74-year-old James Macarthur, also of Cougar, were found to be injured as well, and they were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Aruja had been wearing a helmet, and both Simons and Macarthur were wearing seatbelts. Drugs or alcohol were not involved. Edward does, however, have charges pending.
