The Cowlitz County Department of Emergency Management has issued a warning for potential severe weather later today. According to the National Weather Service, quarter-sized hail is possible, along with a severe thunderstorm threat.
A weaker system is expected this morning, which will strengthen in the afternoon between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. This system could bring frequent lightning, severe wind gusts of 60+ miles per hour, and large hail up to 1 inch in diameter. They also caution that hail as large as 2 inches in diameter or an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
The storms are expected to be very localized, meaning some communities may be hit hard while others are spared. Residents should also be prepared for possible urban flooding if their area is affected by the severe weather.
