The United Way of Cowlitz & Wahkiakum Counties has continued to make a difference. Yesterday, they posted a third ceremonial check for just under $35,000 going to the Nippon Family Fund. That now brings the total received through the United Way for families impacted by the May 26th tragedy to over $298,000.
The check was presented to the Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Central Labor Council and then deposited into the fund at the Lower Columbia Longshoremen’s Credit Union. The AWPPW union administers the fund for affected families.
The United Way stated, “This incredible generosity comes from individuals, businesses and organizations across the region and beyond who came together to help their neighbors.”
The first distribution from that fund has already been distributed to eligible families. The AWPPW says the fund will continue until the end of the year, and then the remainder will be distributed in January.
