The Lower Columbia College Fighting Smelt Speech and Debate Team has been on a hot streak. Over the weekend, they finished as the top community college and second place overall school at the Seattle Classic speech and debate tournament. This means that LCC has not lost in the community college division since October of last year; they have won six straight tournaments.
The Smelt had thirteen students participating on Saturday, and eleven of them won at least one individual award. This tournament was the last of the regional competition season for LCC. Now they are onto the Phi Rho Pi Nationals, which will be held in Norfolk, Virginia, in early April.
