A Warrenton, Oregon, man was killed Saturday evening after being involved in a four-vehicle crash on Highway 30 in the Knappa area.

Oregon State Police say 65-year-old Marshall Stangland was the one who did not survive his injuries. The preliminary investigation indicated he was driving a black Ford Ranger westbound on Highway 30 when, for unknown reasons, he crossed into the eastbound lane around 8:56 p.m.

The Ranger sideswiped a black Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by a 25-year-old Aloha man. The Ranger continued westbound in the eastbound lane and hit a Ford Transit van driven by 21-year-old Raiden Cunningham of Milwaukie. Finally, a fourth vehicle, a Ford F-150 driven by 29-year-old Gregory Wavra of Longview, was unable to stop while traveling eastbound, causing him to strike the Ranger and the van.

The van was occupied by 15 Oregon National Guard members returning from a training event near Warrenton. Cunningham reportedly sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital along with 13 service members. The driver of the Ram and Wavra both sustained minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals.

The incident impacted the highway for four hours. Because 18 people were involved, this triggered a potential mass-casualty response involving area departments.
