A Kalama man was injured Saturday evening in a DUI motorcycle crash on I-5 near the Lexington area.

Fifty-two-year-old Mark Smith was the rider. Arriving medical personnel transported him by ambulance to St. John Medical Center.

Smith had been riding northbound on I-5 at milepost 42 around 6:03 p.m. when he lost control of the motorcycle. Both he and the bike came to rest on the left shoulder of the roadway.

The Washington State Patrol says Smith had not been wearing a USDOT-compliant helmet and that he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He has been charged with driving under the influence.
