April 15, 2025Local first responders, law enforcement officers, and citizens gathered yesterday to mark the sixth anniversary of the tragic death of Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Officer Justin DeRosier.
Fire trucks, patrol cruisers, and ambulances passed by the Hall of Justice in Kelso last night to remember DeRosier, who was shot on April 13, 2019.
About 60 people were in attendance, where Cowlitz County Sheriff Brad Thurman spoke for about 10 minutes. He mentioned DeRosier’s sense of humor and talked about his ability to help people, whether they were victims of domestic violence, individuals who lost their dogs, or those involved in car accidents. Thurman said DeRosier was a proponent for the underdog.
Thurman also said they hope to raise money for a memorial at the Hall of Justice.
The gathering featured many people who wanted to ensure the memory of Deputy DeRosier never fades.
And we stand with them.
