March 31, 2025A Vancouver woman was killed in a high-speed crash Thursday afternoon on Highway 99 in Hazel Dell.
Help arrived just after 1 p.m. to what was described as a “chaotic scene,” with around two dozen bystanders and two vehicles heavily damaged. A Lexus RX400 was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with a Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Camry, 56-year-old Kimberly Butler of Vancouver, was found unresponsive but breathing. She was treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
20-year-old Diego Quintana of Portland was identified as the driver of the Lexus. Witnesses told police that he attempted to flee the scene, but bystanders were able to detain him until officers arrived.
Detectives estimate that Quintana had been driving at speeds over 80 miles per hour in an area where the posted speed limit was only 40.
