A Vancouver man died in a crash on State Route 500 near the Vancouver Mall yesterday morning.

First responders arrived on the scene at milepost 3 at 6:17 a.m., and 67-year-old Jerry Ekstrom was declared dead.

According to the Washington State Patrol report, Ekstrom had been driving a 2005 Ford F-250 eastbound near the Andresen Overpass in the left lane when he lost control. His truck struck the median barrier, then crossed all lanes of travel and went into the guardrail on the right shoulder, going over it and into a tree before coming to rest on the driver’s side.

The cause of the crash is being investigated. It is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. Ekstrom had been wearing a seatbelt.
