Darlene “Bernice” (Hendrickson) Flato: July 12, 1935 — September 16, 2026

LONGVIEW-Bernice Flato, a lifelong resident of Longview, Washington, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, at the age of 91.

Born and raised in Longview, she was a bright and focused young woman. A member of the National Honor Society and her exceptional shorthand skills led her straight from high school into a career as a legal secretary. She later transitioned to staying at home, spending the majority of her life dedicated to being a homemaker.

For many years she enjoyed evenings out dancing with her husband, and spending time at their beach house. She had a lifelong affection for dogs, and red roses were always her favorite.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore “Ted” Flato, as well as all of her siblings (Arnold, Donald and Melvin Hendrickson).

She is survived by her three children, Sheryl Williams, Victoria Teegarden, and Richard Hill; her 6 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral services. In honor of her fondness for animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society.
