April 14, 2025It was a busy weekend for a local K-9 unit. Corporal Benjamin Krueger’s K-9, Bravo, helped make two captures within just a few hours during a single overnight shift.
The first capture came Friday evening, around 10:55 p.m. Members of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Scappoose Police Department were dispatched to a physical domestic incident on Slavens Road in Warren. When officers arrived, they learned the suspect had assaulted his pregnant girlfriend and then fled on foot. Corporal Krueger and K-9 Bravo were requested, and officers began tracking the suspect. Bravo tracked the suspect for about three-quarters of a mile before he was found hiding and taken into custody.
The second capture occurred around 12:31 a.m. Saturday. The Rainier Police Department had been involved in a vehicle pursuit that ended near the Rainier boat ramp. The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward the Columbia River. With the help of Bravo and a drone, the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Larry Daugherty, was located hiding in a large rock pile near the beach. Daugherty was taken into custody on several felony warrants.
