March 18, 2025West Kelso Two-Vehicle Crash—Klog 100.7 News
March 19, 2025Last week, the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office arrested a primary suspect in a multi-week drug and firearms investigation. 52-year-old Roddy Avery of Kelso was arrested without incident after being stopped while driving on Pleasant Hill in Castle Rock.
Chief Criminal Deputy Troy Brightbill reports that on February 25th, detectives, along with the Lower Columbia SWAT team, served a search warrant at a property located on the 1400 block of South 5th Avenue in Kelso, not far from Wallace Elementary School. The property reportedly contained multiple structures, some of which had been converted for residential use, despite being listed as unimproved land on tax records.
Detectives contacted two suspects on the property. They also found an AR pistol with no serial number, a U-Haul car trailer that had been stolen out of Spokane, as well as various illegal drugs, scales, packaging materials, and bottles of unmarked prescription pills. Avery, however, was not on the scene when the warrant was served, and efforts to locate him over the next few days were unsuccessful.
Avery was stopped and arrested last Thursday evening. He was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail on several charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful firearm, first-degree possession of stolen property, possession of a legend drug with intent to deliver, knowing possession of a controlled substance, and possessing motor vehicle theft tools.
On Friday, detectives executed a search warrant for the vehicle Avery was arrested in. Substances believed to be fentanyl and methamphetamine were found, along with other drug paraphernalia and evidence linked to the Kelso property warrant.
Detectives have filed a summons request for Amanda Avery on charges of knowing possession of a controlled substance and possession of a legend drug without a prescription. A third subject may also face charges, pending lab results of evidence located during the initial search warrant.
There has also been a popular social media post claiming that deputies first executed their search warrant at the wrong address on February 25th. We have reached out to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office for information on that situation but have not heard back at this time.
