A Vancouver man is facing multiple charges after a wrong-way hit-and-run collision that occurred Saturday night on I-5 north of Castle Rock.

The Washington State Patrol’s Office alleges that 34-year-old Benjamin Biasella of Vancouver had been driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla southbound in the northbound lanes from milepost 54 when he met a 2021 Chevy Blazer driven by 68-year-old Kenneth Makinster of Kent, who had been going the proper way from milepost 52. At around 10:15 p.m., Biasella lost control and sideswiped the Blazer. The Blazer ended up in the ditch, and the Corolla ended up in the gore point of Exit 52.

Biasella reportedly fled the scene on foot, while Makinster was left uninjured.

Biasella remained at large until Sunday afternoon. He was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail around 3:20 p.m. on charges including 1st Degree Assault, Attempting to Elude, Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving and Hit and Run.

It is not known whether Biasella was injured in the crash or if drugs or alcohol were involved.
