A 30-year-old Sandy man has been arrested following an investigation into a reported shooting on Highway 30 near Goble earlier this month.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies responded around 3:30 a.m. on September 10th after reports of a motorist firing a firearm at another vehicle. The reporting party said that a dark-colored SUV towing an ATV trailer had stopped in the middle of the highway, and the driver got out of the vehicle and fired a gun through their rear window.

The victim was uninjured, but they drove directly to the Sheriff’s Office. There, deputies saw a shattered rear window, what appeared to be a bullet impact or deflection point on the rear of the vehicle, and what appeared to be a bullet jacket near the driver’s seat.

In the days following the incident, deputies investigated, collecting evidence and obtaining video footage from several local businesses. This led to 30-year-old Xavier Cerrillo being identified as a suspect. Then, just on Wednesday, a search warrant was executed on Cerrillo’s home and vehicles. During this time, he was located and arrested.

Cerrillo is facing several charges, including 2nd Degree Attempted Murder and 1st Degree Assault.
