Local fire crews stayed busy yesterday, with 2 unrelated residential fires breaking out in Longview within 25 minutes of each other.

The Longview Fire Department says crews were first dispatched to the 800 block of 33rd Avenue just before 3:40 p.m. for a fire involving an attached garage. The 911 caller reported visible flames and said people were evacuating the residence.

Arriving crews found the garage fully involved, with heavy smoke and flames visible from the garage door and windows. The flames were also threatening nearby power lines, trees, and neighboring residences.

Firefighters were eventually able to get the garage fire under control, preventing it from spreading into the main residence and attic.

Just after 4 p.m., another fire call came in down the road in the 800 block of 30th Avenue, after a report of something burning inside the second story of a residence. Upon arrival, fire crews found the remnants of a small fire that had already been extinguished by a bystander using a fire extinguisher. Firefighters checked the area, confirmed the fire was out, and made sure all occupants were accounted for.

Both incidents are being investigated by the Longview Fire Department’s Investigation Team. There were no reported injuries from either fire.
