Someone was quite literally talked off the edge yesterday morning, thanks to the efforts of a Crisis Negotiation Team.
The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office says the call came in around 8:55am reporting a person contemplating suicide on the Lewis & Clark Bridge. Law enforcement and emergency crews quickly responded and shut down the bridge to traffic while they worked to safely resolve the situation.
The individual was located partway up the bridge structure. Crisis negotiators made contact and were eventually able to convince the person to come down with the help of a bucket truck provided by the Longview Fire Department. The individual was then taken for a mental health evaluation and the bridge reopened around 10:30am.
