Razor clam digging is back at some Washington beaches next week, but unfortunately, Long Beach remains closed to digging until further notice because domoic acid levels continue to exceed state health guidelines for safe consumption.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife says the upcoming digging season will begin next Monday at Copalis and Mocrocks beaches, but Long Beach and Twin Harbors remain closed.
State officials say razor clam abundance at Long Beach remains near average, but digging cannot resume until testing confirms toxin levels are safe. The Department of Health requires two samples taken seven to 10 days apart to show domoic acid levels are below the safety limit before a beach can reopen.
