February 26, 2025There will be six new inductees into the Lower Columbia College Athletics Hall of Fame on Wednesday night.
The group will be honored at halftime of the LCC men’s basketball game against Grays Harbor.
Johnna Ballard Steenkolk was the school’s all-time leading scorer when she finished her time at LCC. The first team All-Star was the team MVP before she went on to play at Lewis-Clark University in Lewiston. She is third on the LCC all-time scoring list and fourth on the all-time rebounding list.
Scott Lucas was one of the top multi-sport athletes at LCC. He played basketball and baseball from 1991 to 1993. He was a first-team all-league hoopster and was a middle infielder on the NWAC Champion 1992 LCC baseball team. Lucas went on to play basketball at Linfield University.
Steve Rooklidge was a stalwart on the LCC baseball teams that won two region titles and an NWAC championship in 1992. He went to play two years at the University of Portland, where he was among the leaders in games played for the Pilots. He went on to a teaching and coaching career, including two state titles as the coach of the Mark Morris girls basketball team.
Jennifer LyBrand Butcher pitched in 43 games and 280 innings, both school records. She was on two NWAC championship teams and is prominent in the LCC record books with most wins in a single season (32), most single-season innings (280) and most games (43). She went on to star at St. Martins University.
Speaking of dominant pitching, Misty Velke played just one season at LCC, but it was a dominant one. Returning home from the University of San Diego, Velke pitched the 2000 Red Devils to the NWAC title, striking out a school record 370 batters. She is nearing her 20th year as a teacher at Monticello Middle School.
Bob Rose is one of the most accomplished referees in Washington State history. He played two seasons of baseball at LCC in 1967 and 1968. Rose has been a long-time supporter of LCC athletics. He has refereed college and prep football, basketball, and other sports for over 50 years. He was the lead referee in multiple NCAA championship football games.
A reception for the inductees and family will be held during the LCC game Wednesday. Tip off is set for 7 pm at Myklebust Gym.
