May 14, 2025The deputy involved in the fatal stabbing of a suspected drunk driver last week in Ridgefield has been identified as 23-year-old Bryson Layton.
According to investigators, Layton stabbed 54-year-old Marc Fogle of Clackamas after Fogle allegedly attempted to take the deputy’s firearm during processing at the Washington State Patrol weight station. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Fogle died from multiple stab wounds to the torso.
Layton, who joined the Clark County Sheriff’s Office in May 2023, was on patrol at the time and is currently on critical incident leave, per department protocol.
Fogle had been arrested after a crash in Hazel Dell around 11 p.m. on May 7 and was brought to the weigh station for a breath-alcohol test when the altercation occurred.
