February 10, 2025Multiple people were hospitalized following a car crash on the Toledo cutoff Friday evening. First responders arrived at the scene around 7:41 p.m. to find a two-car collision at milepost 11 of Highway 505.
41-year-old Brandon Pina, 26-year-old Krystal Brooks, and two children, ages 5 and 6, all from Toledo, were injured and had to be taken to Providence Centralia Hospital for treatment.
According to the Washington State Patrol report, the other vehicle involved, a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek driven by 23-year-old Petr Karnafel of Federal Way, was traveling southbound behind a 2009 Honda Civic driven by Pina. Pina slowed to make a left turn when Karnafel attempted to pass and collided with the Honda Civic.
The cause of the crash was determined to be unsafe passing. Everyone involved was wearing seatbelts, and no drugs or alcohol were involved.
