February 18, 2025A Longview man is going to prison after pleading guilty to driving under the influence during a rollover crash on Ocean Beach, west of Stella, that injured five passengers, including one juvenile, back in November.
The Daily News reports that 28-year-old Makiah Voorhees also pleaded guilty to other crimes from last year prior to being sentenced; however, his sentence was lighter than usual due to a paperwork error.
Voorhees accepted a plea deal that gave him 13 months in prison and 18 months of community custody, as well as nine no-contact orders. Cowlitz County Judge Patricia Fassett stated that Voorhees received a significant benefit from the paperwork error; his initial sentence range would have been 22 to 29 months.
The error was in Voorhees’ offender score, which was only identified after the plea deal had already been made.
Voorhees faced multiple charges, including several counts of felony harassment, assault, reckless driving, and vehicular assault, but the deal resulted in just two felony harassment charges, unlawful possession of a firearm, three assault charges, and vehicular assault for all five people involved in the November crash.
