February 14, 2025A 20-year-old Longview man has been arrested following the overdose death of a 15-year-old male in late January.
On January 24th, Longview Police Officers responded to a home near the 2400 block of McAtee Drive, not far from Fishers Lane, after a caller reported that the 15-year-old was unresponsive and had possibly overdosed. Arriving personnel confirmed that he had passed away, he has not been publicly identified.
An investigation followed, with several of the victim’s acquaintances being interviewed. They stated that he had taken multiple 60-mg morphine pills that he got from a known drug dealer. Phone data analysis and witness statements revealed that the suspected dealer was 20-year-old Baylee Garcia of Longview. He is suspected of actively dealing morphine, LSD, and psilocybin mushrooms to juveniles in the Longview area.
Detectives were able to obtain surveillance footage from a local business near 20th Avenue, showing a hand-to-hand drug transaction between Garcia and the victim on the day of the overdose.
Just yesterday, detectives executed a search warrant at Garcia’s residence in the Highlands, located on the 200 block of 28th Avenue. Garcia was arrested without incident. During the search, detectives recovered evidence of drug distribution, including narcotics, digital scales, and electronic communications related to drug sales. They also found multiple firearms and a ballistic vest.
Garcia is facing several charges, including delivery of a controlled substance to a minor and controlled substance homicide. Additional charges are pending, including unlawful possession of a firearm, identity theft, and welfare fraud.
