Cantwell & Hobbs Holding Joint Press Conference Tomorrow on Ballot Rejection Rates—Classic Hits 100.7 KLOG News

Washington Senator Maria Cantwell and Secretary of State Steve Hobbs are holding a news conference tomorrow in Seattle to release new data on ballot rejection rates following the August primary.

Cantwell and Hobbs say new Trump administration policies affecting the U.S. Postal Service are contributing to higher ballot rejection rates in Washington. They say rejection rates more than doubled in 19 counties compared with the 2024 primary.

The policies require ballots to be postmarked at regional processing centers instead of local post offices, which Cantwell and Hobbs say could delay postmarks and put ballots mailed on or near Election Day at risk of being rejected as late.

A February test by Snohomish County found fewer than half of ballots mailed on Election Day were postmarked in time to be counted.
