The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says a burglary investigation from last weekend resulted in kidnapping charges.
Just after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported burglary on Maracci Road in Warren.
The reporting party said his adult son broke into his home while he was away hunting and that extensive damage had been done. Deputies arrived to find doors that had been kicked in, holes in the walls, drug paraphernalia, and trash throughout the home.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Andrew Hanson of Warren, was located in Deer Island. He reportedly declined to speak with deputies when first confronted. This eventually led to his arrest on charges of first-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief.
While investigating the situation, deputies identified another victim who reported a violent encounter at the residence the day prior. The victim had reportedly gone to the home to help clean it before her father’s return. She, however, said Hanson became violent when she arrived and began throwing things around the house.
When she tried to leave, Hanson allegedly physically restrained her and threatened to hurt her if she left. He allegedly made a makeshift “shank” and demanded money from the victim, also threatening her life. She eventually escaped several hours later.
Hanson now faces additional charges, including first-degree kidnapping, fourth-degree assault, and more.
