Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue Receives Upgraded Digital Alert Systems—Klog 100.7 News

Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue has added new technology to help improve safety on local roads.

The department received five devices from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission’s “Safety Cloud” program, which alerts drivers when an emergency vehicle is approaching or when they are near an active emergency scene.

Drivers using mapping apps like Waze, Apple Maps, or built-in navigation systems in newer vehicles will get notifications to slow down, pull over, and make way for emergency crews.

“This alerting system will assist in keeping the public and our firefighters safe on the roadways,” Cowlitz 2 Fire Chief Scott Goldstein said in a release. “This technology bridges the gap between what the law requires and what actually happens on the road.”
