Kelso Woman Falls Asleep Causing Crash in Kalama—Classic Hits 100.7 KLOG News
January 26, 2026After over 60 years of ownership by a single family, the Wahkiakum County Eagle has been sold. It was purchased earlier this month by Longview businessman Brian Fleming.
The paper says that Jacob Nelson, whose family has owned The Eagle since 1963, has served as publisher since his father Rick Nelson’s death in 2023.
MaryAnn Nelson, Rick’s widow, said the family viewed the paper as a way to serve the community. She said keeping the paper alive is what her husband would have wanted.
Jacob Nelson said selling the paper ensures The Eagle can continue serving Wahkiakum County, adding that local news remains vital, especially in rural communities. He said Fleming brings creativity and a deep connection to the region, which he believes will help the paper adapt and grow.
Fleming, who grew up around the local area, said he is honored to take over the 134-year-old newspaper. He says they will focus on local and regional issues, avoid national news, and strengthen community connections.
