The Kalama Police Department says there was a situation at a downtown business early yesterday morning that led to an arrest.
Just after 3 a.m., officers responded to Center Market at 119 North 1st Street after reports of a disturbance involving a man who entered the business saying someone was trying to hurt him. Arriving officers contacted the individual, who they say was acting erratically and refusing to leave.
Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called in to help. During an attempt to take the individual into custody, a physical struggle occurred between the individual and law enforcement. During that struggle, a Kalama officer deployed their Taser. The individual, later identified as Tyler Kirner Tew, was taken into custody.
Kirner Tew was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation and then booked into the Cowlitz County Jail on charges including resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and obstructing a public servant.
No officers were injured during the incident.
