The Castle Rock Police Department is warning of what they call a local government impersonation scam that is spreading nationwide.

Victims of the scam report receiving emails claiming that their planning permit, zoning application, or similar documents are “under review.” The scam email then directs them to pay a fee through a fake online portal or by wire transfer.

If you receive an email like this, or anything feels off, it may be a scam. Go to your city’s website to find a phone number to call and verify, or visit in person.
